Andy+Stephanie Engagement Session

It was the weekend and it was Sunday morning and at 5 a.m. I was awake.  Sunday really is God's day because this is a miracle.  As anyone who knows me, I am a big fan of sleeping.  But what awaited me this morning didn't make me think twice about curling back up in bed.

Similar to those feelings you get as a kid the night before Christmas or that highly anticipated trip to Six Flags in my family, I felt that way this morning.  I was heading to Duluth, Ga to meet with Andy and Stephanie for their engagement session.  On my way to McDaniel Farm, the dark sky gave way to a soft, pink orange hue that reminded me of sherbet ice-cream: it's going to be a great shooting day.

Since Andy and I had been conversing over the phone and through email, I was so happy to finally meet him and his bride to be Stephanie.  To date one of my most thoughtful and easy going clients.  He took the icing of the cake when he showed up with a Starbuck's vanilla latte.   I mean talk about brownie points!  And Stephanie...the perfect match.  Both were so open and excited to be together taking pictures.  Even though it was super early, they were quick to be playful and really have fun with the poses.  This is why I love photography... you can take the beauty of our world and the love inside us and you capture that timeless moment in a medium you can take with you and pass down.  Thank you both for the amazing session!!

Emerald Cut Diamonds and My Best Friend

I was beyond excited when I got the phone call from my best friend Chanel that her boyfriend Jared proposed last week.  The proposal story involves electronics and pretty good creativity on Jared's part- nothing less than expected from him. Unfortunately (for me) Chanel and Jared are moving out of state in a few weeks so I drove my booty up to Athens for some much needed girl-time and celebration with my friends.  When visiting, I took the opportunity to practice some ring photography.  The only easy part about shooting her ring was finding really cool places to put it but that was about it.

Apparently, emerald cut diamonds are very hard to shoot.  For whatever reason (I have yet to google my answer) but the diamond reflects like really strangely.  Sometimes it looks flat while other times it looks empty... so weird.  On top of that, I do not have a macro lens that's ideal for this kind of photography.. I shall add that on my ever long "things i need list." Needless to say, I think I did alright with what I had, a 50mm 1.8/f.   Thanks for the practice Chanel and CONGRATS to you both!

Don't we all wish we could be so beautiful after a late night, sans make-up? Only Chanel :)

Jess is a gymnastics coach and you can tell, she's got some killer legs.  Matt is a lucky man.

Hello Outside

The weather in Georgia has been very warm lately for February so every Atlantian has been looking for things to do outside.  I have never been one for day long ventures, it just never really fit into my life before now.  I have always loved the outdoors and spent much of my childhood playing in woods so getting back to nature was a total welcomed activity.  I can't explain how nice it has been to really escape the city grind and get back to nature.  So me and the bf planned out a couple, not to far, day trips with the doggies.  We went to the East Pallisades just inside the perimeter and Sweetwater Creek the following weekend.
My favorite part of the trip was the dogs.  When they get outside, it's like "call of the wild" or something.  They run for their lives and have SO much fun.  It is such a joy to watch.  I couldn't imagine a better weekend... Here are some pictures to summarize my awesome trips...
